Jennifer Lopez Has Plans to Return to American Idol

The former Fly Girl will return to American Idol. Not as a judge, but to hit the stage as a performer.

Reports ran wild last week that Lopez would be brought back to replace Mariah Carey. Despite bringing on Carey, one of the biggest names in music history, and quirky rapper Nicki Minaj, ratings for the 12th season of American Idol have been less than stellar.

Allegedly, the Idol executives’ plan fell apart once Carey’s team got word and threatened legal action against the show. However, Carey’s team denied the report as did AI producer Nigel Lythgoe. “I have not been included in any conversation regarding replacing Mariah with Jen the season,” Lythgoe said.

According to E! News, a source revealed that there will “definitely be changes to the judging panel for next season. Fox thought the Nicki-Mariah contrast would make for ratings, but there is a concern it is like nails on [a] chalkboard for middle-America viewers.”

While fans of the show would probably welcome Lopez back to the judge’s panel with open arms, they will have to settle for what is sure to be a hot performance.

Tune in to the two-part season finale when it airs May 15 and 16.
