Jessica Biel: Nothing Will Change When I Marry, Because I’m Almost Never Home

May 29, 2012 by Hollywoodite

This is an interesting quote from Jessica Biel about her pending nuptials to Justin Timberlake, the date for which they’re yet to share publicly. Although there’s tabloid speculation it’ll be this Summer in California, before Biel starts filming The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea this Fall. She’s producing and starring in it, while Timberlake writes and sings for its soundtrack, returning to music for the first time since 2009.

Biel went wedding dress shopping, in France, a few weeks ago (photos included wearing the light coat), to meet with designers although she’s especially keen on scoring a dress by French designer Monique Lhuillier. And this weekend’s engagement party suggests the wedding date is indeed very near. Logically, the couple might want the wedding and honeymoon out of the way before their schedules fill up again in the third quarter.

They had a celebratory cocktail party catered by Wolfgang Puck and attended by Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Trace Ayala, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia DeRossi and Amy Adams. Biel wore “a leopard-print halter dress cinched at the waist with a hot pink belt and matching shoes.” And a source tells Us Weekly of the night: “Jessica and Justin were mingling both separately and together throughout the party… Jessica seems to be very close with Justin’s friends and vice versa. You can see that they have been dating for a long time and really know each others friends and family well. The party was a fun celebration and a preview of what’s to come with the wedding.”

And now there’s an interview translated from a French publication that may also be out of context, but Biel says marriage is a continuation rather than a new start. And, she’s right. It’s myopic to see weddings as an end point, which is usually the view of women who arbitrarily marry whomever asks first because they’re more excited to be a “bride” for a day than a “wife” forever. Biel doesn’t come across as so shortsighted about marriage nor children (let’s just skip right over the alleged cheating that, honestly, probably never happened nor is there one compelling proof or account of Timberlake stepping out).

“To me, nothing will really change, because I’m almost never home,” the actress, 30, tells the French magazine Gala in a translated interview. “But when I am home, I enjoy cooking.”

“I especially love making cupcakes,” she says, while admitting that when she attempts to customize recipes, “it’s a total disaster, but I’ve also had some pleasant surprises, like recently when I managed to make zucchini fritters.”

“I don’t think our marriage will change anything,” she says. “It will be a challenge finding a balance between my private life, family and work, and I’m ready.”

She also describes herself as “someone who lets things happen naturally,” saying she is not sure if she wants to have a child right away. “For me, getting married doesn’t mean we should limit ourselves to some predefined idea. Rather, it’s an opportunity to explore new things in life.”

There are three distinct qualities she finds admirable in her future husband, 31: “The ability to communicate well… to be able to express his feelings. Then, loyalty. And, finally, honesty.” – via People Magazine.
