Star Magazine: Jessica Simpson’s Diet Disaster “Can’t Stop Gaining Weight”

This week’s Star Magazine was released early, because of the Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes divorce and also to escape July 4.

Oddly, Star made Jessica Simpson’s weight its featured cover story, with the brimming Cruise-Holmes divorce scandal crammed into a ludicrous sidebar (really, whose idea was that?) The cover says: “The Way She Was… Jessica’s Diet Disaster. Can’t Stop Gaining Weight. 5′ 3″ Jessica now 182 lbs; $4M weight loss deal in jeopardy; Tells Eric ‘I can’t get married looking like this.’” One note, aside from the fabricated quote on the cover, the “before” photo looks like its years and years old.

The sidebar says: “DIVORCE SHOCKER. Katie’s Story: Why She Left Tom. Details you won’t read anywhere else. Tom was monitoring her phone and emails; His refusal to give Suri a sibling; How Sandra Bullock became Katie’s secret supporter. First look: Tom’s sexy Ukrainian girl.” A few notes, the “girl” they’re referring to is probably a co-star since he’s filming a few things right now. Second, these are not “details you won’t read anywhere else,” because the parts that are true you’ve read already. Lastly, the part about him having her monitored is accepted as truth; he does the same with his daughter, Isabella Cruise, having the teenager followed for her “protection” but really to make sure she cannot defect nor be swayed by outsiders.
