Joseph Gordon-Levitt on Co-Star Scarlett Johansson: “Scarlett is a Gorgeous, Gorgeous Woman”

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson star together in a new movie, Don Jon, about the differing ways in which men and women perceive relationships largely based on their socialisation and cultural references.
The stereotype being that women who watch unrealistically romantic Hollywood movies end up with a deluded idea of how relationships work. The corollary assumption is that men form their opinion of women, sexuality and relationships by watching adult entertainment.
The obvious question then, despite Scarlett getting engaged recently, is about attraction. Since it’s an easy headline and it’s largely what the movie is about.
“Look, Scarlett is a gorgeous, gorgeous woman, but if you just compare purely physical features, plenty of girls are just as gorgeous. But she creates this extra something. It’s in her walk, her eye contact. The total package is just off the charts,” says the 32-year-old leading man.
“I didn’t know Scarlett, but I spent more than a year with the image of her in my head playing this character. She couldn’t not do this,” Gorgon-Levitt continued.
He adds, about his character’s addiction to adult entertainment, ”I’m aware that it can be hateful toward women. It can be addictive. It can get ugly. But it’s only damaging if you allow it to be.”
