Justin Bieber’s Comments In The Anne Frank House Guest Book Cause Controversy
April 15, 2013 by Coco Liberty
Justin Bieber is receiving negative press today for his comments left in the Anne Frank guest book. He wrote: “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.” Of course, history is lost on Bieber and marketing his brand is more important. While Anne Frank feared for her life and her family, she would have put on her iPod and listened to Bieber’s music for comfort. How ridiculous is that?
According to the Anne Frank House Facebook page, they weren’t as offended as others by Bieber’s ridiculous comment. They write, “The Anne Frank House was pleased to welcome Justin Bieber to the Anne Frank House last Friday. We think it is very positive that he took the time and effort to visit our museum. He was very interested in the story of Anne Frank and stayed for over an hour. We hope that his visit will inspire his fans to learn more about her life and hopefully read the diary.” I understand that they need publicity in order to keep the age group of Bieber’s fans aware of historical events, but the Anne Frank House isn’t addressing the absurdity of his comment. You can’t compare screaming girls over an arrogant annoying pop star to a girl who kept a journal of horrible and fearful events while inspiring many to overcome anything in life.
Bieber should be banned from Europe for life. His European Tour has put many fans off between altercations with paparazzi to being late/canceling shows. I understand that Bieber is going through his late teens/early twenties experimental phase, but all the negative press is starting to add up. Back in the states, Bieber has pictures with drugs, car accidents with friends, and running the risk of becoming the next Lindsay Lohan. Bieber has refuted the comparison between him and Lohan with the evidence of paying his taxes. Although he’s good with the IRS, in the media he isn’t doing as well.
In contrast, Selena Gomez is off to a stellar new start post-Bieber. Gomez is taking notes from her BFF Taylor Swift and writing songs about relationships and I’m sure Bieber inspired a few songs. Gomez performed her new single Come and Get It as a tribute to Britney Spears at the VMAs. She also announced her tour this year and is taking advantage of her new found single status. She publicly dissed Bieber on David Letterman by saying “Well that makes two of us” in reference to making Bieber cry. Gomez also had small success with the film Spring Breakers that was recently released and has changed her squeaky clean Disney image. We will definitely see more of Gomez and hopefully less of Bieber’s antics. Gomez might have been the best thing for Bieber.
