Kanye West Being Deemed “Ignorant” Over Offensive Lyrics in New Song On Sight
June 20, 2013 by Mike Siegel
Oh, man. We all know Kanye West is no stranger to making people feel offended and upset; just ask Taylor Swift. However, along with the release of his new album Yeezus, the 36-year-old rapper might as well deem himself the king of hurting people’s feelings.
According to TMZ, West is being called “ignorant” and “distasteful” for his inappropriate usage and comparison of Parkinson’s disease in his new song titled On Sight. The verse that is in question by many goes like this: “A monster about to come alive again, soon as I pull up and park the Benz. We got this b*tch shaking like Parkinson’s.” Wow. Whoever read over his lyrics and gave it two thumbs up beforehand definitely did not think things through. TMZ reported that the American Parkinson Disease Association is extremely unhappy with West’s words. Kathryn Whitford, the vice president of the APDA, told TMZ that she thinks the lyrics are “the product of obvious ignorance.” Nice one, Yeezy.
West’s representatives have not responded to the APDA’s case yet, if they even will. There was also no word of the APDA trying to take further action. If the song ends up becoming a new single of West’s, will the APDA urge that the phrase “Parkinson’s” in the lyric to be censored? Maybe, but it is as clear as day that West most likely is not too worried about that. After all, between the obvious release of the new album and the welcoming of his first daughter, he is probably a bit too busy to pander to the little people right now.
What do you think of West’s reference to the disease? Is it offensive or does he have the freedom to say it? Comment your thoughts below.
