Kanye West Sued By Photographer Over Airport Attack

August 22, 2013 by Lindsay Cronin

Kanye West has been involved in more than a few tussles with paparazzi recently but one incident in particular has resulted in a lawsuit. Last month, West got into a verbal dispute with a photographer at LAX which led to him wrestling the man to the ground in an attempt at taking his camera. The incident was caught on tape and the video quickly circulated the web.

Although West was not immediately charged in the incident, the photographer he fought with has now filed a lawsuit.

In the documents filed Wednesday in Los Angeles, Daniel Ramos is claiming assault, battery, negligence and violation of his civil rights. According to Ramos, he suffered an injury to his right hip when West “punched him in an unprovoked attack and wrestled his camera to the ground” which left him on crutches for two weeks.

“I told him twice, ‘I don’t want to fight you,’” Ramos explained. “However, he attacked me anyway.”

Ramos states that he is still in pain and has been forced to walk with a cane.

Representing Ramos is Gloria Allred who, on Wednesday, held a press conference in L.A. During the conference, Allred told press that the attack “sets a dangerous precedent for celebrity-on-photog violence,” pointing out that various celebrities have applauded West for the attack.

Prior reports claimed that because there was no physical proof that West had attempted to steal the camera, the D.A. was unable to charge him with a felony of attempted robbery. At that time, it was said that West would likely settle with Ramos in the form of a lump sum (or as the law says, a civil compromise). Apparently, that never happened.

In case you haven’t seen it or would like a reminder, the attack in question can be seen in full in the video below:
