Kate Middleton’s Weight & Baby-Making Ability Criticised
July 14, 2011 by Hollywoodite
Kate Middleton is being criticised over her weight, again. This hasn’t really been an issue since the British royal wedding, but it’s coming up again because of the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge’s recent foreign trip. The American tabloid media seems to be riding Middleton on this, more so than the UK; pretty much, even at the time of her wedding, all anyone talked about was the elegance of the wedding. No weight chatter. No baby-making chatter.
But, aside from her timeless fashion choices, all anyone can talk about now in the tabloids is Middleton’s weight and its direct correlation to her ability to conceive. Several magazines are covering this, this week. Star makes it their cover, with the headline “Pregnancy & Anorexia Shocker: Kate’s 95 lbs And Having A Baby.” Which is a lot more vague than it appears on the first read. Moreover, how would they know her weight? They infered as much, surely? Well she is 5 foot 8 inches, according to Star – or 5 foot 10 inches, according to Life & Style, more on that later – and she is slim and athletic built. She was that way at her wedding and she’s that way now. She’s just a little slimmer; but would you not be after the stress of the wedding and the incessant travelling?
One friend tells Star that “when the conversation turns to babies, [William] gives her a knowing look while she smiles back.” But at 5’8, doctors say Kate, 29, is “dangerously underweight,” and in no shape to have a baby right now.
Friends of Kate say the Royal Family is also pressuring her into having a baby as soon as possible. “On Prince Philip‘s 90th birthday, he said the best present Kate could give him would be a great-grandchild before the end of the year,” another friend of Kate’s reveals. – via Hollywood Life.
So, she’s being pressured to have a baby – but, that’s essentially her job now; getting pregnant and being Duchess Catherine Middleton. Effectively, that’s her job. So the “pressure” point seems moot. Well, she’s probably healthy – until we’re provided with proof to the contrary.
That hasn’t stopped Life & Style this week from covering something similar. Middleton’s on their cover too, but with the headline “Stars Under Pressure: Starving To be Sexy, ‘William tells Kate to ditch the diet as the size zero princess drops 10 lbs’” None of that even sounds like a conversation that would be had by royals, in any context of the words. They’ve been travelling the world on goodwill campaigns and meeting celebrities. Her diet would be the least of their conversation topics. Not to mention, “Starving To Be Sexy”? Hmm…
The 5-foot-10 princess was once a size 6, “but there’s no way she’s more than a size ’0′ right now – and that’s extremely skinny,” a friend tells Life & Style. “Kate was pretty skinny on her wedding day, but now pals are saying she’s dropped another 7 to 10 pounds,” an insider says.
Understandably, now that she’s in the public eye, Kate is self-conscious about people watching her at mealtimes. During the newlyweds trip to Los Angeles, celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis cooked up an extravagant meal for the couple and their guests at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club-but Kate barely touched any of her three-course meal.
“Vegetables, salad, lasagna and seafood were served at the luncheon,” an eyewitness tells Life & Style. “She picked her way through it. She’s dainty and demure, and I doubt she felt comfortable in that setting – there were thousands of people staring at her.”
Luckily, she’s not going through this alone. Her husband, Prince William, saw firsthand the toll the public spotlight took on his mother, Princess Diana, who battled bulimia for years. “He saw the pain and anguish his mother went through,” an insider tells Life & Style, “so William’s No. 1 priority is to ensure that Kate is happy and healthy and doesn’t fall into any further bad habits.” – via Life & Style.
For good measure, let’s hear what In Touch Weekly has to say on the matter (the Teen Moms were on the cover this week, so ITW’s not in the gallery).
Kate Middleton has “dropped to 95 lbs.” Dr. Fred Pescatore, the creator of The Hamptons Diet, thinks Kate looks terribly underweight. He thinks she should weigh 140 lbs., and suspects she weighs 105 lbs. at the most.
The mag notes that her stressful schedule may be to blame. Meanwhile, Dr. Pescatore says: “If she wants to get pregnant, good luck with no body fat on her.” – via Jezebel.
