Katherine Webb Cancels Interviews Because The Attention Distracts From AJ McCarron’s Win

January 10, 2013 by Hollywoodite

Katherine Webb’s Twitter following increased from 2,300 to over 250,000 followers in 48 hours hours after becoming the subject of 73-year-old ESPN announcer Brent Musburger’s lascivious ravings about her beauty.

Webb is 2012′s Miss Alabama and she attended Monday’s BCS National Championship Game in support of quarterback boyfriend AJ McCarron. After Musburger’s comments went viral, Webb responded with an interview on The Today Show that was also a response to ESPN offering a formal apology and apparently chiding Musburger.

According to TMZ.com, she was reluctant to do the Today Show interview and was basically bullied into it by Donald Trump (who owns the Miss USA competition and openly supported the couple tweeting: “What a great couple… Katherine Webb and AJ McCarron. They are both winners!”).

Webb had reportedly become concerned that the attention on her took away from the team’s win, which it did, and she imposed a media blackout. Moreover, McCarron was reportedly extremely unhappy about the media ignoring his win and wanted his private life to remain private. Also, McCarron re-tweeted this: “Awesome couple. What kind of time are we in where people try to break up someone else’s relationship. RTR!”

However, Trump talked Webb into appearing on Today although she’s since backed out of eight other scheduled interviews fearing the press attention makes her look like a fame-hungry opportunist.

She says it’s her decision to cancel and “My decision to cancel the interviews was not made at A.J.’s request.” She continues: “I want it to be about me and him. He’s a guy I can see myself having a real future with.” Speaking of which, Webb recently made the cover of Alabama Weddings on which she models a white wedding dress.
