Us Weekly: Katie Holmes Breaks Free; “Saving” Suri Cruise; Plotting The Escape

July 2, 2012 by Hollywoodite

Us Weekly Magazine has been released early, in addition to an early edition of People Magazine. And these will be, undoubtedly, the only two covers that offer any real perspective. That is, they will be the only ones with sources well-placed enough to offer passably-accurate stories. Whereas lessers like OK! Magazine will be pretty ludicrous this week. Guaranteed.

The Us Weekly cover says: “Katie Breaks Free. ENOUGH! Her plan to ‘save’ Suri from Scientology. Tom’s shock when she demanded custody. How she secretly plotted her escape for months.” Again: several pertinent details were evidently true at the time of print. For example, there were reports as early as Friday afternoon about Katie Holmes wanting to “save” her daughter, who’s 6, because that’s the age the heavy indoctrination and “sec checking” begins. And, as the child got older, says TMZ.com, she could be recruited into the elite core known as the Sea Org (the church, however, clarifies anyone under age 16 isn’t eligible).

On Friday, TMZ said Holmes wanted to leave to spare her daughter from getting deeper involved in the church; hence filing for divorce in NYC which favours sole custody in which one parents makes educational, medicinal, and religious decisions although there are some fiddly caveats and no one can agree whether religion is an allowable variable.

Holmes just wants her daughter out of the church, RadarOnline.com counters Cruise will “never let that happen” and he will file his own papers in California (which favours joint decision-making) using the same lawyer he used when divorcing Nicole Kidman, attorney Dennis Wasser.

The Us Weekly story, in short, is less concerned about the WHY as the HOW she left.

Katie Holmes’ Hollywood fairy tale with Tom Cruise definitely did not have a happy ending.

When the 33-year-old actress filed for divorce from Cruise, 49, last Thursday… aggressively moving for sole legal custody of daughter Suri, 6… it was the culmination of a year-long attempt to break free of a confining, Scientology-influenced marriage to Cruise, sources tell the new Us Weekly.

“Every move she made and everything she did was controlled. She felt like she was in Rosemary’s Baby,” says one insider, referring to the classic 1968 horror film, in which an aspiring young actress (Mia Farrow) unwittingly bears a child for her husband’s Satanic cult.

Indeed, her shocking divorce filing, which has blindsided a “furious” Cruise, wasn’t simply about the Kennedys star’s own personal contentment, a Holmes source says.

“This is about protecting her daughter,” the insider explains to Us. “She wants to be in charge of how Suri is being raised and didn’t want her to have an exclusively Scientology education.”

The first source puts it more bluntly: “She felt she had to get out to save her daughter.” – via Us Weekly Magazine.
