Katie Holmes Interviewed Day Before Divorce Filing, Would Not Refer To Tom Cruise By Name

July 24, 2012 by Hollywoodite

Katie Holmes covers C Magazine September 2012 with whom she gave an interview the day before filing for divorce from Tom Cruise.

Holmes left several clues before making a clean break from her marriage. Months before the filing, she wrote about script about a single mother with a daughter and “threw” the script on Cruise’s desk asking for his notes (yes, really, his words from a recent Playboy interview). Six weeks before the filing, Holmes gave an interview with Elle Magazine in which she hinted at unrest in her marriage and also her intention to leave Cruise. Post-split, Elle promoted their coup as a unique harbinger of the divorce. Except C Magazine got the far, far better exclusive by interviewing Holmes the day before she filed papers in New York City.

C Magazine’s Senior editor Kelsey McKinnon told WWD: “Going back over the tapes, there were signs. Holmes was certainly very aware of herself, laying a couple cards on the table but never showing her whole hand. Most noticeably, the one name decisively absent from her lexicon: Tom Cruise. She never actually refers to him by name over pages and pages of transcription.”

On whether having a child made her marriage closer: “I don’t know. I mean…I don’t know. People have been having babies a long time.”

On her career and life outlook: “I’m ready to take on some more challenging roles. I feel like I worked so much at such a young age that I really wanted to have life experiences. I feel more balanced and like I have more to bring to the table. I always felt like I wanted to catch up [in my personal life] to what I was doing [in my career].”– via C Magazine.
