Kim Kardashian Talks Sex Tape & Wedding: “We Don’t Do Anything For Ratings”

June 19, 2012 by Hollywoodite

As forewarning: this week’s Keeping Up With The Kardashians and the Oprah’s Next Chapter interview are both two-parters. Part one aired Sunday June 17. Part two of each will air Sunday June 24.

Moving on and wrapping up coverage of part one of Oprah’s interview, the host asked about Kim Kardashian’s need to whore everything from the sex tape to the televised wedding (that was needed to jive with Kardashian’s “story,” she needed to fit in, to be married with kids, it was a box to tick, it was arbitrary, since the husband and kids were incidental in her “fairy tale”).

Asked how the tape boosted her fame and wealth, Kardashian replied: “You know, I think that’s how I was definitely introduced to the world… It was a negative way, so I felt like I really had to work ten times harder to get people to see the real me. I have to live with the choices I have made. And I can’t dwell on it.” There was paltry follow up about Kardashian releasing her own tape. To which Kardashian replied she’s always been concerned about “humiliating the family.”

When it was released, she said, she turned to her mother, panicked. It was a “really bad day” Kris Jenner recalls. “No mother ever wants to hear something like that. I could tell she was in a lot of pain.” But Jenner told her daughter, “We can get through anything.”

Asked about the wedding to “whomever… he’ll do,” Kardashian insisted she married for love. Moreover, she says, she doesn’t do publicity stunts (like planting her own engagement rumours about Reggie Bush, and the whole relationship with Kanye West, and leaking her own tape, and E! auditioning her boyfriends, and staging her own proposal, and filming scenes for the show months later to smear her estranged husband, the orchestrated club fight where a drink was poured over her, and the contrived PETA flourbomb).

Kardashian says: “We have an amazing fan base that watches the show. We don’t do anything for ratings. I was in love. I wanted the life that I always pictured my fairy tale life to be. I would’ve had an extravagant wedding anyway, to end that relationship was a risk in itself to lose ratings and I had to take the risk to be honest to myself… I saw how our relationship was [when we moved in together in NYC]. I don’t want to get into the small things, but once we moved in, I knew he wasn’t the one.”

And, finally, Kardashian pretends to be sad about the end of her fake marriage: “I was in such a deep depression I thought I was going to back away from everything. I stayed at home for almost four months and I’m a better person now, as heartbreaking as it was to go through. I loved him, obviously it hurt him, and it hurt me too. It was embarrassing, I don’t want to call it a mistake, it was a lesson.”
