Why Did Lamar Odom Leave The Dallas Mavricks: He Was “Depressed, Moody, Drama”

April 10, 2012 by Hollywoodite

Lamar Odom confirmed yesterday afternoon that he would leave the Dallas Mavricks after only four months. And it’s been four rough months, of which fans/ teammates were aware even before the further downgrade to the Mavricks’ development league.

Upon the news breaking, yesterday, people began speculating and finger-pointing and most of those fingers were pointed in the direction of Khloe Kardashian. Except sources for RadarOnline.com seem pretty adamant that Kardashian was the only thing holding Odom together, preventing a further emotional and physical decline as Odom’s career implodes.

Mavricks owner Mark Cuban worried about Odom’s lack of consistent effort, claims a source: “The decision was made by the team owner Mark Cuban after Lamar did not play in the second half of a game against Memphis. The team was upset by his inconsistent effort on the court and was concerned about how his demeanor could impact the team’s younger players.”

Another source claims Odom was effectively fired for being a diva: “The Mavericks are parting ways with Lamar today. Too much drama, not enough focus on basketball. He just couldn’t get past all his issues, whatever they may be, and concentrate on playing basketball… It’s not anything with Khloe, in fact, she has been the smartest one in his group and has been pushing him hardest to stay focused on his job.”

A third source also blames Odom’s behaviour claiming he’d degenerated into a petulant, distracted brat sulking and mourning the loss of his Lakers jersey: ”Lamar hasn’t gotten over being traded from the Lakers, and he has been depressed and moody ever since the trade happened. Lamar felt that he was ripped away from his Laker family with no warning or notice. He couldn’t fathom the fact that the Lakers traded him after all of his years with the team. Khloe has been extremely supportive of Lamar, but she is growing increasingly concerned for her husband because she has never seen him like this before… Lamar is just lost right now, and Khloe is hoping once they move back to Los Angeles and he is back in familiar surroundings, he will get out of his funk. Lamar wants to keep playing basketball but it might be time for him to retire, which has Khloe even more concerned.”

Kardashian seemed to suggest with a recent tweet that Odom was too good for the Mavricks anyway: “Never a dull moment. You deserve so much better. Know your worth and know your skills that have been proven and earned. You showed your strength, I love you.” Later, she clarified, following a backlash: “[People] want to assume they know. My last tweet was for me and not for anyone else. I always send out encouraging tweets but today I get backlash? Odd.”
