Lamar Odom Quit The Dallas Mavericks After A Rough Four Months

April 9, 2012 by Hollywoodite

Lamar Odom quit the Dallas Mavricks, after being blindsided with a trade from the Los Angeles Lakers back in December.

After a few false starts, and a lot of rumour-mongering, Odom was traded down. At least his fans and teammates saw it as trading down, moving from L.A. to Texas, dragging his shady, shilling fame-whoring in-laws with him.

One supposes that, since moving, Odom and wife Khloe Kardashian have settled a little and probably moved most belongings out of their first marital home. Although it’s not confirmed whether Odom will move back to L.A., his roots and the rest of his family are there.

Odom confirmed that he’s leaving, so he’ll sit “inactive” through the rest of the season before possibly being traded again. Traded, if anyone else wants him.

According to ESPN, Odom will likely be listed as inactive for the rest of the season.

Instead of being formally released, the Mavericks can trade him after the season ends in conjunction with the draft. “Any team that has Odom on its roster as of June 29 must buy him out by that date for $2.4 million or otherwise accept responsibility for the full $8.2 million that Odom is scheduled to earn in 2012-13.”

During his four-month stint with the Mavericks, Odom was temporarily reassigned to Dallas’ D-League (development league) to tend to personal matters. – via Us Weekly.

“The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it’s in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team,” Odom told ESPN in a statement.  “I’m sorry that things didn’t work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs’ organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship.”

It’s speculated that family troubles, trouble conceiving with his wife, filming his eponymous reality show, and possible marital trouble, threw Odom’s game. Although most casual detractors are blaming the Kardashians for taking away Odom’s focus.
