Liberty Ross Divorces Rupert Sanders Six Months After His Affair With Kristen Stewart
January 28, 2013 by Hollywoodite
It’s been six months since Kristen Stewart’s affair with director Rupert Sanders made the cover of Us Weekly Magazine.
Following a series of similar scoops, Us Weekly broke the news that was confirmed by People Magazine a few hours later (it’s been suggested that Ross tipped off the tabloids). Then came the photographic proof of sexual carrying on in public. Stewart was cheating on boyfriend Robert Pattinson. Sanders was cheating on the mother of his two kids, actress and model Liberty Ross, who said little while her husband and her husband’s younger mistress got their stories straight and issued tandem statements to People Magazine. They claimed it was a non-sexual “momentary indiscretion” whereas sources said it went on for months.
In the interim months, Sanders and Ross spent a little time together publicly including Halloween. And they reportedly went to couples therapy. Although it was suggested she’d forgive the “silly flirtation” that Sanders’ father dismissed as something every man does, which is pretty sad if true, she’s been dropping hints that she wants a clean break from her husband. And now she’s filed for divorce. Ross is asking for joint custody of their kids, ages 5 and 7. Ross, represented by Laura Wasser, is seeking spousal support and lawyer’s fees. Sanders, represented by Lance Spiegel, wants joint custody and shared lawyer’s fees.
Ross is probably seeking support because she uprooted her life to support her husband’s career. She tells the new issue of Love Magazine, in an interview conducted before the divorce: “I moved to L.A. with my husband Rupert because I felt it was time for him to have his turn. We both like it there and we were both established in what we did, but it felt like things could only excel for him in film in America. I wanted to have children and change my life in that way too. I’m glad I did it. I don’t have any regrets.”
A source tells HollywoodLife.com that Ross tried to save the marriage: “Liberty did all she could to try and save the marriage, but in the end she thought it would be best to walk away. They just couldn’t see eye to eye. Of course she is heartbroken, but the trust between them was completely destroyed, and Liberty was humiliated. Liberty is a strong woman and will be just fine. Rupert is not taking it well at all. I can only imagine how Kristen feels… that her actions contributed to the break-up of a family.” Stewart seems pretty remorseless, honestly, she didn’t care while she was doing it and she’s since said “I don’t care” whether her actions upset people.
And sources tells Us Weekly: “This was a long time coming, [Rupert] did want to try to repair the relationship and didn’t want a divorce. [Liberty] was more than a little upset. They gave it a shot for the kids, [but] she was just so angry [and] she’s the kind of person who wouldn’t really ever get over it. ”
