“The Lion King Rises” Is TDKR Re-Cut Trailer Christopher Nolan Called “Pretty Epic”

July 30, 2012 by Hollywoodite

Giving this its own post so it’s not buried under The Dark Knight trivia or The Dark Knight Rises trivia in the other posts, here’s a re-cut look at TDKR’s trailer in which scenes from 1994′s The Lion King have been synced to dramatic effect.

This is a really great re-cut and it’s synced better than other trailers of its ilk (mash-ups of Toy Story 2 and Requiem for a Dream; The Little Mermaid and 300 (a YouTube commenter nicknamed it “300 Mermaids”); Up and Gran Torino; Wall-E and Watchmen; Toy Story 3 and Inception; Toy Story and The Wire).

Director Christopher Nolan is quoted as saying of “The Lion King Rises”: ’That one got thrust in front of me. I thought it was pretty epic.”

For comparison, of course, here’s the actual trailer for this year’s TDKR.

Incidentally, another Reddit.com poster notes that in The Lion King, Zazu played by Rowan Atkinson (Blackadder, Mr Bean) gets sat on by a rhinoceros at the end of Just Can’t Wait to be King and the muffled voice sounds a LOT like TDKR’s Bane as played by Tom Hardy.

Other comparisons to Bane’s voice: Sean Connery in Darth Vader’s mask.
