Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj Feud Hurting American Idol Ratings? Details Here…
January 18, 2013 by Staff
There is no way to know for sure if the Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj feud on American Idol is actually helping or hurting the ratings, but one thing for sure is that ratings for this season are down.
Despite all the publicity that the feud has received, the season 12 premiere of American Idol actually had the worst ratings for a premiere in the show’s history.
According to PerezHilton.com, the show had 17.9 millon 18-49 year old viewers for the premiere, down 19 percent from last season.
Perhaps this can be attributed to viewers being unaware that the show was premiering because the show had a slight improvement for night two which aired yesterday.
EW.com is reporting that even though night two was still lower than night one with 16.2 million viewers in the 18-49 category, this was only 2 percent lower than last years night two.
This might mean that viewers who did tune into night one, enjoyed it enough that they at least decided to tune into night two.
Could Carey and Minaj’s antics be turning off viewers? Or perhaps viewers are just losing interest in the show because of possibly more entertaining shows like The Voice and X Factor?
In any case, these questions will be answered as the season progresses, with the live shows beginning at the end of February.
