Michelle Williams Covers Elle UK Promoting Marilyn Monroe Movie

Michelle Williams has been on what feels like a very long promotional trail for My Week With Marilyn, the Marilyn Monroe biopic no one asked for that’s receiving lukewarm buzz at best.

No one seems blown away or convinced by Williams’ casting as the titular figure – the rest of the casting being in safe hands with Dame Judy Dench, Emma Watson, Kenneth Branagh and others.

But Williams lacks the sexuality and easy charisma that an MM character needs. She has qualities: for a quirky, asexual, or hipster role. She is a very specific kind of girl; pretty, sexy in an unconventional way, plus she’s got the brains to pull off a thoughtful role. But, she’s not the person for this part. At least that’s the current consensus based on the poster, trailer, teasers, and interviews she’s been giving etc. She’s not a horrible choice, she’s just not got… it. She’s in a bad wig doing a weird, breathy, affected MM voice (and what the heck is that accent???)

Well, Williams is promoting the movie in Elle UK December 2011 – FYI, she’s wearing a Prada Cruise 2012 dress on the leaked subscriber cover. She’s back to her Mia Farrow look, her old look, rather than the MM curls of the Vogue cover. And it’s an odd marriage.
