Michelle Williams Caught In A Lie About Destiny’s Child Super Bowl Halftime Show?

January 29, 2013 by Hollywoodite

Late last year, shortly after Beyonce was confirmed as the chosen performer at the 2013 Super Bowl half-time show, rumours began about how she was going to fill the spot and with whom.

There have been reports about other singers and even fans joining Beyonce on stage in addition to the ostensibly “confirmed” rumour that she would appear with Destiny’s Child, who recently reunited.

Asked about the Super Bowl, Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams told Internet radio station WRUG Media Group: “That’s not confirmed. It is rumoured. I’m gonna be in the musical Fela! I hate to disappoint the people and tell them that it’s not true. Just thinking about it gives me a headache. It seems quite impossible because of our own individual schedules. My opening night for ‘Fela!’ is January 29. I’ve been in rehearsals for that, so I haven’t had time to think about learning anything else.”

She is available but told people she’s not. Here’s the interview from last week.

The date she gives is January 29, the Super Bowl is February 3, so it’s not like it actually overlaps with opening night. Moreover, a Gawker.com commenter notes the Fela! website explicitly says Williams is NOT performing on nor immediately prior to the Super Bowl, saying: “PLEASE NOTE: Michelle Williams will not be appearing January 31st – 3rd.”
