Miley Cyrus’ Dad Billy Ray Comments On Her Controversial Performance At The VMAs

August 27, 2013 by Lindsay Cronin

Miley Cyrus stunned the world with her outrageous performance at Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards. During the performance, Miley stripped down to a nude underwear set and twerked, licked, rubbed, and grabbed her way to being the most memorable — and talked about — moment of the night. While some may have taken the performance as creative or unique, many slammed the former Disney star for being explicit and raunchy.

Following the performance, fans couldn’t help but wonder what Miley’s parents thought of their daughter’s antics. That night, Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley’s dad, took to Twitter where he posted a message shortly after Miley went on, but it was unclear if it was directly related to the performance..

Thanking God for so many blessings tonight. Continue to pray for world peace. More love …less hate.

Now that he’s had some time to gather his thoughts, Billy is speaking out again and this time, he is being more direct.

“Of course I’ll always be here for Miley. [I] can’t wait see her when she gets home,” Billy Ray told Entertainment Tonight host Nancy O’Dell when asked about Miley. “She’s still my little girl and I’m still her Dad regardless how this circus we call show business plays out. I love her unconditionally and that will never change.”

Unfortunately, the Parents Television Council feels differently. Yesterday, they released a statement, condemning Miley’s performance as well as MTV for airing such filth.

“MTV has once again succeeded in marketing sexually charged messages to young children using former child stars and condom commercials — while falsely rating this program as appropriate for kids as young as 14. This is unacceptable,” the statement read. “MTV continues to sexually exploit young women by promoting acts that incorporate ‘twerking’ in a nude-colored bikini. How is this image of former child star Miley Cyrus appropriate for 14-year-olds? This content would likely not be given a forum if it were on a broadcast network, yet MTV continues to push limits because it’s a cable network. But that does not mean MTV’s decisions have no consequences, especially for the millions of children who were targeted by MTV.”
