Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth Not Engaged: Twitter Photo Isn’t Engagement Ring

Late last week, Miley Cyrus posted a photo on Twitter of her manicure with the caption: “I am soooo obsessed with [shill] nail foundations! It looks so chic and classic!” Except she wore some kind of cheap, random sparkler on her ring finger leading media outlets to spend the weekend excitedly declaring her engaged with no further proof or word from reps who’re currently not responding to requests for comment.

Cyrus, 19, has since worn the ring on red carpets with The Hunger Games actor boyfriend Liam Hemsworth, 22. She wore the ring on the red carpet for Muhammad Ali’s Celebrity Fight Night XVIII on Saturday and backstage at another event in Phoenix, Arizona.

Gossip Cop, The Daily Mail, Us Weekly, and People Magazine called the ring a “giant diamond,” a “giant rock,” a “huge new diamond ring,” a “sizable rock,” or whatever, when it looks pretty-obviously cheap, tinny, small, with a (fake) rock cut poorly enough to necessitate the claws you see on the sides. It’s like a Claire’s/ gumball ring, or some other costume ring.

Looks aside, Us Weekly sources say the couple is “not engaged.”

It’s just a ring that Cyrus is probably using to get her boyfriend publicity the weekend his movie is released (without giving too much away, although The Hunger Games broke records taking $214.25 million international/ $155 million domestic opening weekend, it is pretty reductive, derivative, watered down, anti-climactic and otherwise problematic and Hemsworth has meager screen-time).
