Miley Cyrus Voices Her View on Marijuana in Rolling Stone Interview
June 20, 2013 by Mike Siegel
Miley Cyrus is definitely no ordinary young adult. Between starring as television sitcom pop legend Hannah Montana and maintaining her own singing career, to say that Cyrus is extremely successful for being so young would be an understatement. However, the 20-year-old Nashville native is no stranger to the typical party lifestyle embraced by many adolescents throughout the country, made evident in the release of her new single and its music video titled We Can’t Stop. Now, she is back with a controversial statement reinforcing her inner party girl. In an interview with Rolling Stone for their July 4th summer double issue, Cyrus was quoted as saying that “alcohol is way more dangerous than marijuana.” When asked about her personal association with marijuana, the singer joked that she “did a song with Snoop Dogg called ‘Ashtrays and Heartbreaks,’ so people can put it together for themselves.” Hey, at least she’s honest.
Cyrus also showed her resilience towards judgment and critique in the interview, acknowledging that people would be upset with her statement and saying that it doesn’t matter to her. The singer has apparently seen quite a few people in her life be impacted negatively by alcohol, “but [she has] never seen that happen with weed.” Cyrus seemed to subtly and subliminally show her support for the drug, which was legalized for recreational purposes in two states back in November, throughout the interview, not having a single negative comment about it. Well, she did get caught smoking “salvia” a few years back via video. Maybe there’s worse troubles than a little bit of weed compared to other hard drugs. The singer also has been critiqued for her alleged use and promotion of molly, a form of ecstasy, in a lyric in We Can’t Stop. She denied saying it in the song, though, claiming she was really saying her own first name in her Southern-native accent. Interesting.
Regardless of anyone’s view on the morals of weed and its endorsers, Cyrus certainly isn’t in the hot seat with parents of young children throughout the nation. The Huffington Post reported that in a survey conducted by CouponCodes4u.com for 2,407 American parents, Miley Cyrus was voted as the number one famous female figure that was the worst role model (Chris Brown was the number one for males, in case you were wondering). Shocking? Probably not.
