NeNe Leakes’ BFF Marlo Hampton Fires Back At Her For Claims That She’s “Difficult”

NeNe Leakes recently spoke to the press about planning her wedding and filming the process for her Real Housewives of Atlanta spin-off, I Dream Of NeNe: The Wedding. During the interview, NeNe was asked which one of her bridesmaids gave her the most trouble and in response, she revealed that it was one of her closest of friends, Marlo Hampton.
“The most difficult people were Marlo Hampton and Diana Gowins,” NeNe revealed to Entertainment Weekly earlier this month. “When I say difficult, it was unbelievable that they could not step outside of themselves and say that this is a wedding for NeNe, our friend, and let’s just be here to support her. They argued most of the time, they were never really satisfied. They were very difficult in different ways. After working with Marlo on the show, I could see why she was not a housewife, because she’s super difficult. She’s super extra.”
But while NeNe thinks that Marlo’s high maintenance behavior is the reason that she was never asked to be in a full-time role on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Marlo claims that is far from the case. After all, according to her, she wouldn’t be eligible to be a housewife, regardless of her behavior, since she isn’t yet married.
“I have no husband, so I can’t even be a full-time housewife,” Marlo explains in a new interview with Radar Online.
What Marlo fails to realize is that while the show may be called “Real Housewives,” the women on the show typically aren’t wives at all. For example, Bethenny Frankel and Kelly Bensimon were both brought to New York as single ladies on the show, as were Gretchen Rossi of Orange County and Kim Zolciak of Atlanta. When it comes to the show, being married is far from a requirement.
Besides that, Marlo feels as though she would be a great fit for the program. “There’s nothing normal about me — I love being extra and I own it. That’s part of Marlo,” she says. “Me being normal, you wouldn’t see me every week being on the show and I’m sure she wouldn’t have asked me to be in her wedding if I wasn’t extra. Everyone loves my personality. The producers love me.”
Although Marlo didn’t film season 5 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, fans can expect to see her on the upcoming 6th season. ”I’m taping a couple of scenes here and there. I don’t know if I’m supposed to tell you that, but yeah,” Marlo reveals, adding that she would classify herself as a friend of the housewives. “I always just say a cast member because I’m on it. I’m being called to tape.”
For now, Marlo seems content with her friend role, and even if she eventually ties the knot, she’s not sold on joining the show full-time. “It depends on what my husband would want,” she states. “That would definitely have to be 50-50 because I feel some men would not [like that]. And you know I want to marry a successful man, so hopefully [he would] tell me it’s not for me.”
