Nigel Lythgoe Confirms on Twitter He Was Fired From American Idol

It was only a matter of time until we found out how American Idol would proceed after its dismissal of all four judges this season. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is spilling the beans on Twitter, confirming that he was also “fired.”

“Just had 10 days in the Bahamas, rain everyday,” Lythgoe tweets before sharing the news. “I get back to the States and get fired.  Sad!”

Lythgoe has been with the show since its beginning in 2002, so it is sad to see him go. “It’s not a personal thing they just feel IDOL needs new leadership after 12 Seasons,” he writes.

Lucky for the So You Think You Can Dance executive producer and judge, he will continue to his critiquing duties for the popular  FOX dance competition.

“Monday we choose our top 20. I’ll smile again.” Lythgoe adds, “Yes, don’t worry I’m on #SYTYCD. FOX still loves me.”

It is also rumored that executive producer Ken Warwick will not return for season 13. Following the news of Lythgoe’s departure, FOX issued a statement: “The passion and dedication that Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick brought to AMERICAN IDOL guided the show to become a true cultural phenomenon. While we are saddened they will no longer be executive producers on the show, we are grateful for their tremendous contributions and look forward to continuing to work with them on additional projects.”

FOX has completely reinvented the term “cleaning up house.”
