Nine-Year-Old Mexican Girl Gives Birth… 17-Year-Old Suspected Father On The Run

A young Mexican girl, 9, identified only as “Dafne,” has given birth.
Making headlines last night, the minor from western Mexico has given birth by Caesarean section, “due to her young age and to the fact that her body was not ready to give birth,” to a healthy baby girl who weighed in at 5.7lbs.
Dafne is reportedly healthy following the January 27 birth at Zoquipan Hospital, pictured above.
The healthy mother and baby were released from hospital over the weekend. But the new mother is still being physically and mentally monitored by doctors due to her age, Dr. Enrique Rabago, the director of Zoquipan Hospital confirmed at a press conference.
The baby’s father is allegedly a 17-year-old boy who the girl claims is her “boyfriend,” whom she is “dating,” in what she describes a loving relationship. Although, unsurprisingly, he’s since left town, is currently on the run, and his whereabouts are unknown.
“Due to her young age, we don’t know if she is being entirely truthful,” says Lino Ginzalez Corona, spokesperson at Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office.
“The girl was just over eight when she got pregnant. The father is a boy who is 17, but we have not found him, since he ran away,” Dafne’s mother told local officials.
Further reports clarify, because the boy broke the laws preventing the sexual exploitation of a minor, he may be criminally charged for having a sexual relationship with Dafne.
Corona adds, the boy suggested the couple live together and raise the child together but when Dafne refused the boy “decided to leave town two months ago.” Corona also says Dafne is one of 11 kids herself and “Her parents work all day and were not watching after her, and therefore didn’t realize what was about to happen.”
“We are looking for the young man to get his story because [Dafne] does not understand what has happened,” said state prosecutor Jorge Villasenor, who notes Dafne only realised she was pregnant in the seventh month. “This is a rape or child sex abuse case.”
For what it’s worth, the youngest known and verified pregnancy in history was a five-year-old girl from Peru, who gave birth in 1939, who was assumed to have had a tumor accounting for her swollen belly but she was really seven months pregnant at the time.
And, if you can stomach it, there’s a list of mothers under the age of 12 of which Dafne is now part and, you may notice, an alarming number of relatives, cousins, uncles etc., is listed as the “father” in many cases.
