OK! Magazine: Brad Pitt Comments Were “Competitive & Vicious,” He’s Jealous?

September 21, 2011 by Hollywoodite

OK! and a few other magazines this week have gone on a supposition-spree following the comments made by Brad Pitt about his marriage to Jennifer Aniston. This week’s OK! cover focuses on the interview in which Pitt calls himself a bored slacker who’s become dead inside after suffering through six-years of marriage to his boring ex-wife.

Reading the whole Parade interview, in all honesty, he didn’t appear to have been taken wildly out-of-context. He said a broad comment about his life in the 90s and how it’s led to his happiness now. He just lumped in too many negative adjectives around the comments about his marriage and people focused on that instead of the positive. That’s not really being taken out-of-context. It’s his own fault for not being more careful and for not thinking through such a comment after all these years in the business. Frankly, he knows better.

Brad Pitt doesn’t give many interviews — and now maybe we know why. After discussing his personal life with Parade magazine, the Moneyball star managed the rare feat of enraging and humiliating both his ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, and his current partner, Angelina Jolie.

“Brad is in deep trouble with both Jen and Angelina” an insider tells OK! in this week’s issue, on sale everywhere Thursday!

The interview started with a little healthy self-deprecation. Reflecting on who he was 10 or 12 years ago, Brad described himself as a “pathetic” slacker, “sitting on a couch, holding a joint…. I wasn’t living an interesting life.”

So far, so good. Until Brad added, “I think that my marriage [to Jennifer] had something to do with it — trying to pretend the marriage was something it wasn’t.”

Remember when Jen said Brad was missing “a sensitivity chip”? Apparently, he still hasn’t grown one. Here, Jen has finally put their painful divorce behind her and is talking marriage and babies with new love Justin Theroux — and Brad brands her a mindnumbing bore and implies that his whole life with her was a lie.

Was it really mere thoughtlessness? Some insiders believe otherwise — that it’s killing Brad to see Jen and Justin mooning like giddy teens.

“Brad’s got a real competitive, vicious streak, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s jealous,” a Jen pal tells OK!. “Justin is everything Brad couldn’t be. He adores Jen; Jen is deeply in love with Justin. And she’d fallen in and out of love with Brad during their marriage. Truth be told, they were both bored. Jen saw Brad as a dull stoner. But Justin is a poet and an author and well-educated and amazing.”

At first, the public put-down wounded Jen, adds another source: “She was angry and confused. But then it became obvious to her — and everyone else in their world — that he’s just envious of how happy she is with her new man.” – via OK! Magazine.

Pitt commented in the Parade interview about the tedious mind-reading of the tabloids, “Brad feels this… Brad’s hurt… Brad’s emotional.” And this article’s a pretty good example of that. It’s the musing and pontificating of unnamed sources. Let’s give it the once-over for context and leave it at that.

He said some pretty nasty things of his own accord and we’re getting two retractions in quick succession because 1) he’s trying to avoid a backlash as he premieres and promotes his new movie, Moneyball 2) the tabloids are all suggesting he’s getting it from all sides with Angelina Jolie, Aniston, her boyfriend Justin Theroux, and the representation of all parties upset about the Parade interview.
