The Kardashian’s Former Nanny, Pam Behan, Releases Book Preview: Who Is Pam Behan?

Pam Behan is the former nanny to the Kardashian children, Kris Jenner’s children by the late Robert Kardashian Sr., and the Jenner children, Bruce Jenner’s older kids by his ex-wife Linda Thompson, about all of whom Behan has written in a tell-all book, entitled Malibu Nanny: The True Adventures of the Former Kardashian Nanny.
Who is Behan? The bio for her book says: “P A M B E H A N was the full time nanny for Brandon and Brody Jenner for two and a half years, and took care of Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Robert Kardashian for five years, while also serving as the family’s cook and personal assistant to Kris Jenner. Pam received her Bachelors of Science degree in music education from Pepperdine University. She currently lives in Aberdeen, South Dakota, works in the insurance industry, teaches piano, and substitute teaches when she has the time. While “in [her] early twenties,” Behan worked with the Kardashians from 1991 to 1996; immediately prior, for nearly three years, starting July 4, 1988, Behan worked with the older Jenner kids. Behan had “moved to California” at 19-years-old “to become a nanny.”
In the acknowledgement for the memoir, Behan says: “First and foremost, I want to say thank you to Brandon, Brody, Burt, Casey, Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Robert. I have so many happy memories of the years I spent with you. I loved each of you so much, and took care of you as if you were my own. I’m honored that I got to be a part of your life. I am proud of each of you, and think of you often. My biggest hope is that some day I can reunite with each of you. I hope that you always remember your crazy Nanny Pam. Sending love, hugs and kisses your way!”
Behan describes the kids upon their meeting: Kourtney (12) was “a serious child” who “spoke her mind,” Kim (10) was “gorgeous” and “always very sweet and friendly,” Khloe (6) was “a pistol, full of energy,” and Robert (4) was “mostly sweet and precious.” Perhaps Kourtney Kardashian was so “serious” because she was aware of and disturbed by her mother’s recent affair with Todd Waterman, of whom Khloe Kardashian also has clear memories, and her mother’s subsequent whirlwind romance with Bruce Jenner.
Behan describes her old job as “nanny” and “Kris Jenner’s personal assistant,” with no contract at all, who took care of household errands so that her boss could “focus on… business endeavors.” Behan left in 1996, shortly before the birth of Kendall Jenner. Behan kept visiting the children for “years” after she left; in captioned photos, she says they “stayed in touch for a while.”
Behan says of leaving the family: “I loved those kids, and it was truly hard to leave them. Yes, I was the hired help and I had done the job I had been paid to do. I poured my heart into my job, and I poured my heart into them. I nurtured them. I cared for them. Hopefully, I made a difference in their lives.”
The book is a roundabout, exposition and anecdote-reliant expose written as a series of soundbites rather than a cohesive retelling of her time working with the families. Also in the book, a series of photos of the Kardashians and Jenner families in the 90s, although who knows how she got permission to publish those (personal copyright, perhaps, if she took the photos herself and kept them in addition to photos given to her by the family… towards the end of her preview, she posts newborn Kendall Jenner’s baby photo with the caption “these photos of Kendall were given to me by Khloe after I left”).
A longer series of excerpts will follow in a subsequent post, since Behan released 148 pages along with exclusive photos (coverage was mostly buried since her PR person released this Friday afternoon). Behan told Entertainment Tonight back in March, the book is not defamatory or negative, she let the family read the book before its release, and that’s probably why she’s giving so much away upfront.
