Paris Hilton: “The Simple Life Was The Best Reality TV Show Going. It’s Timeless, Iconic”

Paris Hilton is in the middle of some kind of resurgence.
The socialite has somehow carved out a “career”, if you want to be generous and call it that, spanning over 10 years. She’s been on the New York Party scene for over 15 years, she was on television on and off for nearly 10 years, she had successful, branded stores internationally and over a dozen fragrances which alone netted over $1 billion in sales.
By comparison, the Kardashians are reaching saturation point, the kids are sick of being pimped by their mother, the Kardashian brands are synonymous with sweatshops, scams, snake oil, illegal and copyright infringing products. Moreover, the failure of Kris Jenner’s talk show is largely blamed on the family’s overexposure (she interviewed her own kids because no one more interesting really wanted to be on her show).
Hilton is currently one of the most successful and sought after DJs in the world, commanding high six-figures per night, which apparently requires a press tour because she’s given an interview to self-promote.
The 32-year-old tells the UK’s Heat Magazine, she doesn’t envy girls getting into the industry now compared to 10 years ago: “I feel really sorry for the girls in Hollywood who have these promising careers and all of a sudden all these bad things happen, and you don’t see them get back on track properly. I think it has something to do with their family in some situations,” she said.
“I’m so blessed [to have] solid parents. My parents don’t live off me, to start with. With some people, it feels like the kid is the boss, and they survive off them. That’s not good. It’s a weird Hollywood thing, but I guess you never know what goes on behind closed doors.”
She adds, of her new role as DJ, “I’ve been hosting parties since I was 18, so I know a thing or two about how to have fun,” Hilton said of her new job. “I think, with anything I do, people like to think that because I’m from the Hilton family I’m just some kind of party girl. But I shouldn’t be judged on my money or my name. If anyone knows anything about music and clubbing, it’s me.”
Finally, Paris says The Simple Life (2003-2007) beats Keeping up with the Kardashians (2007-onward), “Reality TV is a lot of hard work, and Kim has done well for herself.”
Does she watch KUWTK? No, but she explains why, “I don’t watch reality TV now, because I don’t have time… As far as I’m concerned, The Simple Life was the best reality TV show going, and it turned 10 years old recently. It’s timeless, iconic and you can still watch it.”
Paris adds, “They wanted us to do a 10-year reunion show recently, but Nicole and I were both too busy.” And she insists she’s still friends with another former sidekick, Nicole Richie, “[Are we still friends?] Of course! We’ve been friends since we were two years old and we will always be close. I’m so happy for her with her family. She’s so cute now.”
