First Photos Of Harper Seven Beckham, Her Baby Name Explained

July 17, 2011 by Hollywoodite

One week after the birth, Victoria Beckham took to her Twitter and David Beckham to his Facebook to post photos of their daughter.

At the end of last week, we got several convoluted explanations for the baby name. There had been a lot of supposition about the meaning. Some of the guesswork was right, most of it wrong. Evidently. That’s according to the soccer player father-of-four who posted a video explanation to his Facebook.

“A lot of thought goes into our children’s names and Harper was a name that we’ve loved for a long time for a couple of reasons,” he explained. “One reason is Harper’s an old English name which we loved and one of the other reasons was Victoria’s favourite book is To Kill A Mockingbird and the author was Harper Lee. That’s where Harper came from.” – via The Daily Mail.

There are several things off with that explanation. It all kind of feels made-up, after the fact, to sound more impressive. Not least because Harper Lee is alive and she should be spoken about in present tense, no? Whatever. That’s less entertaining than the suggestion that his wife reads. Books. Okay, sure. Let’s get into this one.

There was a quote attributed to his wife, in 2005, by a Spanish journalist, in which she allegedly explained she never read books, ever, because she was too busy, “I haven’t read a book in my life. I haven’t got enough time. I prefer to listen to music, although I do love fashion magazines.” She later claimed to have been misquoted, explaining that she was too busy to finish a book because of time spent on more important things like her children.

So far as the name Seven, there’s a laundry list of reasons for that too.

“A lot of people have assumed that it’s just because it was my shirt number that I wore for many years, and part of it is,” the 36-year-old father of four says. “Part of it is because I had so much luck around wearing that number, wearing it for England, wearing it for Manchester United. It was such an influential number throughout my career, and a lucky number, but that wasn’t the main reason.”

“It symbolizes spiritual perfection, Seven Wonders of the World, seven colors of the rainbow, and in so many cultures around the world, it’s regarded as a lucky number,” he explained. – via Us Weekly.

And this weekend we get the first photos. From someone who likes playing with the colour settings on their cell. The baby’s vaguely more of her mother, although it’s hard to tell.
