Video Footage Shows Jim Toth Reprimanding Reese Witherspoon for Drunken Behavior

For anyone who had a hard time imagining Reese Witherspoon behaving badly during her arrest last month, you’re in luck—now there’s video evidence. Reportedly, the intoxicated actress became belligerent and defiant while her husband Jim Toth was arrested for a DUI in Atlanta. On May 2nd, Witherspoon and Toth both pleaded no contest to the charges.
Though she cancelled all interviews immediately following the incident, the mother-of-three finally explained what happened in an interview with Good Morning America earlier this week. “I saw him arresting my husband and I literally panicked,” Witherspoon said. “I told [the arresting officer] I was pregnant. I’m not pregnant. I said all kinds of crazy things.” The self-proclaimed good girl and her husband were understandably embarrassed. And after admitting to their wrongdoings, the couple is undoubtedly ready to move on.
Unfortunately, the tabloids aren’t quite ready to let go of the buzz-worthy story. Gossip site TMZ.com recently obtained dashboard video footage of the arrest. “My name is Reese Witherspoon. You’re arresting me for obstruction of justice,” she told the officer in what has now become an infamous rant. “It’s gonna be in the national news—I just want to let you know,” the Mud actress continued with a special brand of drunken condescension.
But most people already knew about the nature of the 37-year-old’s outburst on the night of April 19th. What the public may not have known is that her husband kept a cool head throughout the ordeal. Despite failing a sobriety test, the Hollywood agent was sober enough to scold his wife for behavior. “He asked you to get in the car,” Toth said. “All you should have done is let me get arrested.” The two can be heard going back and forth as Witherspoon refutes her part in the whole messy ordeal.
The Georgia State Patrol denied releasing the video, so it remains unclear how TMZ got the footage. It seems like Witherspoon and her husband have learned their lessons. And the star has already promised that the behavior will never happen again. For her own sake, she should try to keep that promise.
