Mark Zuckerberg’s Wife: Priscilla Chan $4,700 Wedding Dress By Claire Pettibone

It’s the week following the wedding of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan, whom he met at a Harvard University frat party standing in line for the bathroom at his Jewish fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi.

The couple updated their life events this weekend, changed their statuses to “married,” and shared a wedding photo. Which means, of course, today is an inevitable deluge of body-snarking, remarks about body language, and a side of racism.

The body language in the official photo is probably the most contentious point. The UK’s Daily Mail newspaper actually drafted the aid of an expert to parse the wedding portrait. In short, author and body language expert Judi James says, the awkward stances mask real “devotion.”

James tells the newspaper: “There are no active expressions of the kind of affection displays we normally associate with traditional wedding poses… On close inspection, these poses are actually rather sweet because despite Mark’s efforts to adopt what looks like a suitable cool, casual and non-traditional approach, with the undone collar and hand shoved casually in one pocket, all his more spontaneous gestures define him as a very traditional and delighted groom… His bride is far more traditional, tucking her shoulder in behind his and tilting her head in a way that looks demure and compliant… The couple’s entwined fingers suggest subtle affection. For all their awkwardness, actually these two are entirely devoted.”

And there’s been a lot said about Chan’s wedding dress. Specifically, the rights and wrongs of its simplicity.

So… who designed the dress and how much did it cost? It’s a $4,700 piece by “thrilled” Los Angeles-based designer Claire Pettibone who was surprised, and otherwise occupied entertaining her kids at Disneyland, when the wedding took place on Saturday. Moreover, Pettibone opines to Buzzfeed.com, Chan probably bought the dress using a fake name.

Available on Pettibone’s website, the ivory laser-cut silk creation with floral lace overlay is labelled the “Sky Between The Branches” gown. People Magazine notes the dress is: “adorned with matte sequins lined in silk. The gown featured subtle cutouts in the overlay, plus an illusion jewel neckline, sheer back and chapel-length train.”

“She wore it with such grace,” Pettibone tells People Magazine. “Her gown seems to perfectly capture her personality; understated; and elegant; with a touch of sparkle. It’s a perfect blend of femininity and fashion.”
