Reality Stars Won’t Be Welcome On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame
August 26, 2011 by Hollywoodite
For clarification, there are already several reality stars on the walk of fame; people who have had careers in other areas but lent on reality to bolster their brands later down the line. However, the Walk of Fame’s Facebook account has discounted any addition of newer reality stars who’ve contributed nothing of value to the entertainment industry.
Ana Martinez, Vice President for Media Relations and Producer for the Hollywood Walk of Fame, responded to a Facebook fan question with her own personal comment: “Someone asked if we give reality show characters stars? Hell to the No!” Later adding, after her comment got attention, “It’s just not on the radar for us right now.”
Specific examples, with which commenters on their page would appear to agree: anyone from Jersey Shore or anyone from Keeping Up With The Kardashians (the Kardashians/ Jenners/ Odoms/ Humphries). And so there’s really just a line being drawn in the sand, saying that if sleeping around on television and being drunk is all you have to contribute… you’re not welcome to be approved and to give them thousands of dollars to pay for the star’s placement and its upkeep.
Oh, that.
Celebrities pay $30,000 of their own money and they pay for ongoing maintenance (there’s a load of wear and tear). So The Situation isn’t going to be able to buy his way in, even earning $5 million-per-year.
Moreover, people such as sports stars have been added even though they’re outside of the fixed “Motion Pictures, Radio, Recording, Television, Live Performance/Theatre” categories.
FICTIONAL characters, such as Disney and Warner Brothers cartoon characters have their own stars. As well as other animated/ fictional characters from movies. Starcasm.net notes, “Animated characters: Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Snow White, Woody Woodpecker, The Simpsons and The Rugrats all have stars. Fictional characters: Big Bird, Godzilla and Kermit the Frog are on the Walk. Also, dog stars Lassie and Rin Tin Tin have a star.”
