Reese Witherspoon Covers Marie Claire October 2011; Hit By Car

Reese Witherspoon covers Marie Claire October 2011. Someone at the magazine got a bit carried away with the tinting on this cover. Witherspoon almost looks sickly with the heaviness of the pink. She’s wearing pink, on a pink background, surrounded by pink lettering. And for some reason, they made her complexion pink too. From her eyes to her hair, ignoring the matchy-matchy pink lip. It’s just too much.

In the interview, she’s asked about the same old; her marriages. Because as a married woman over 30, she’s legally not allowed to be asked about anything other than relationships, babies, and ageing in Hollywood.

On her divorce from Ryan Phillippe: “I was hard on myself when I got divorced. And until I got remarried, I don’t think I realized how stressed I was… I feel so much relief. I don’t think I recognized how anxious I was about being a single parent. It was really, really stressful. It’s not easy on anybody. I think Nora Ephron says in one of her books, ‘You know, don’t kid yourself, divorce is really hard on your children. It’s really hard. Children will not be better for it.’ I mean, there are extenuating circumstances. I’m sure everybody’s life is different, so I shouldn’t say that. But it’s really traumatic. Now I feel a great sense of relief and an incredible amount of support from my husband.”

On seconf husband Jim Toth: “You know, somebody close to me once said, ‘Oh, no man will ever accept your children.’ And I just thought it was the most horrifying thing someone has ever said to me in my entire life,” she says, a slight Southern lilt emerging. “I was determined to find somebody who would make that not true. And I got lucky. I did. I got very lucky, and he’s wonderful. And so wonderful with the children. I’m very blessed.”

In other news, Witherspoon was hit by a car Wednesday morning as an elderly woman failed to stop at 20MPH for Witherspoon to cross the road. Witherspoon was struck, but the driver was only cited for failing to hit the breaks before being let go. The actress’ injuries were minor and she’s already resting back at home, her rep confirms to People.com
