RHOA’s Kandi Burruss Is Engaged: Should The Wedding Be On Television?

January 16, 2013 by MJane

Real Housewives of Atlanta star and Grammy winner Kandi Burruss has confirmed to US Weekly that she is engaged to boyfriend and ex-show producer Todd Tucker. Years after unexpectedly losing her fiance AJ Jewell in a nightclub brawl, it seems that Kandi has finally found her happy ending. The question is… will we all get to be guests at her storybook wedding?

At this point, Kandi has said that she does not know if the wedding will be televised. Fans have long said that Kandi is more “real” than the other housewives, including one time BFF Kim Zolciak, whose over-the-top wedding was turned into her own spin-off show, Don’t Be Tardy For The Wedding. Kim’s big day featured three wedding outfits for the bride, each by top wedding dress designer Pnina Tornay, for a total cost of well over $100,000. At the blowout reception bash, Kim had security remove her own mother for daring to use the bathroom in her home instead of the porta-potty she rented for guests. (No, really).

But just because the wedding appears on the show doesn’t mean that it has to be over-the-top. Cynthia Bailey, who joined RHOA in season three, got married in that season’s finale. Though more understated than Kim’s, Cynthia’s wedding was played for drama, with real life consequences. During the episode, Cynthia was shown having cold feet, and the entire episode was carefully edited to leave the viewer wondering if she would show up to the altar. Cynthia’s mom and sister were shown debating whether or not to give Cynthia her marriage license, which she thought she’d left at home. Without the license, the wedding couldn’t go forward. Concerned that Cynthia’s fiance seemed to need her money to finance his business ventures, her mom and sister contemplated hiding the license so the wedding wouldn’t be possible. Ultimately they came clean, and Cynthia went through with the wedding. Cynthia’s husband, Peter, later saw this scene play out on television, which created tension and awkwardness between him and the in-laws.

Though both Kim and Cynthia remain happily married, planning a wedding that will be shown on TV seems like more stress than a simple girl like Kandi would want. Then again, planning the wedding of her dreams on someone else’s dime seems ideal for the frugal diva. After all, we are talking about the woman who stooped down to pick up the money other cast members threw in the air at a South African nightclub, and coolly tucked it away.

Tell us in the comments, what do you think Kandi will do?
