Rihanna Covers Vogue UK November 2011 In Another Blonde Wig

October 3, 2011 by Hollywoodite

Okay, so this wig Vogue UK stuck on Rihanna is better than the budget wiglet used by Armani last month. It’s a vast improvement, actually. Although, it’s tedious to see her in an array of wiglets that wash out her skin. The colour does nothing but dry and dull her warm complexion. It’s always too harsh and it makes her soft features harsh too. The warm reds and browns she does herself look much better.

This is Rihanna’s second Vogue cover in a year, her first being American Vogue in April 2011. She’s one of the few women of colour to score a British Vogue cover. So, this is more of a footnote to prove it actually happened. And it’s another Marilyn Monroe theme, right? Not just the wig, but the silhouette of the Armani Prive dress… that’s what they were going for. There’s more Armani couture in the shoot.

On the hyper-sexuality in her videos: “That’s not me. That’s a part I play. You know, like it’s a piece of art … I just want to make music. See, people – especially white people – they want me to be a role model just because of the life I lead. The things I say in my songs, they expect it of me and being a role model became more of my job than I wanted it to be. But no, I just want to make music. That’s it.”

On why she always changes her hair: “I don’t ever want to be a theme because then it belongs to someone, and that’s not right. I want to cultivate something that’s part of my personal swagger – whatever my mojo tells me, that’s what I’m going to do…”

On her overuse of the c-word: “It’s funny. The word is so offensive to everyone in the world except for Bajans. You know African Americans use the n-word to their brothers? Well that’s the way we use the c-word. When I first came here, I was saying it like it was nothing, like, ‘Hey, ****,’ until my make-up artist finally had to tell me to stop. I just never knew.”

On her maturity and attitude being down to her childhood: “I saw too much. I was way too mature for my age.” – via British Vogue.
