Ruben Studdard Will Lose Weight on The Biggest Loser

The 15th season of NBC’s The Biggest Loser will gain not only a new set of competitors to see who can shed weight and get health but American Idol alum and winner, Ruben Studdard.

“I’ve never had an issue with my weight. [But] My family has a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart-related issues things I didn’t have to dea lwith yet because I’m young. But I don’t want to be worried at 40, and if I don’t fix things now, I will be,” Studdard said.

However, this is not his first time at the rodeo. Studdard teamed up with celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson in 2006 to lose weight but due to lack of calorie intake which lead to him not having enough energy Studdard quit. “I was losing weight, but I was exhausted. It was making me sick. I’m a big man. There was no way to do those workout on that amount of food [1,200 calories a day], so everything was contradicting itself,” he said told People during an interview in 2006.

Later on in 2006 the singer dropped 70 pounds in 455 frame after he switched to a vegetarian lifestyle. He credited exercise and planned is meals out to weight loss, “Every week we would start by writing out a meal plan and calories.”

The season two American Idol winner will be the first celebrity to joining the competition show which will begin this fall.
