Sources: Russell Brand Won’t Go After Katy Perry’s Money

February 8, 2012 by Hollywoodite

Realising that he could walk away millions richer but with the bad publicity that may come with it, Russell Brand is leaking stories of his nobility to multiple outlets. It’s probably him leaking these reports anyway, since sources are telling TMZ.com and People.com the exact same thing today; only 24-hours after Brand filed final papers in the divorce.

Basically, he wants out. Now. Sticking around to finagle additional money and assets would add months or years to the divorce proceedings. So Brand is making it clear that, no, he’s not interested in taking half the $44 million estranged wife Katy Perry earned during their 14-month marriage (Brand could have pulled a Nick Lachey, who took half what Jessica Simpson earned during their three-year marriage and is still mocked for the legal hijack to this day). Even though Brand is entitled to the money because, as multiple sources confirm, there’s no prenup.

Russell’s lawyer filed final divorce papers Tuesday, although the judge will make the divorce official on June 30, because there’s a 6 month waiting period.

Russell and Katy did not  have a prenup. As a result, everything they earned during their 14-month marriage is community property. Which means they’re each entitled to 50% of the pot.

Katy made $44 million between May, 2010 and May, 2011, according to Forbes. The couple married in October, 2010, so Russell could have scored [half] if he exercised his community property rights.

But, as one source put it, “This divorce is as amicable as it gets, and Russell [is] a [good person].” – via TMZ.

Russell Brand is entitled to a large amount of Katy Perry’s money in his divorce, but he will not ask for any cash from his higher-earning estranged wife, a source confirms.

Brand, 36, who married Perry, 27, in October 2010 and filed for divorce this past December, could lay claim to tens of millions of dollars from Perry; half of what she earned during the time they were married. A source says that the couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement. – via People.
