Buckwild Season Two Production Halted In Wake Of Shain Gandee Death: How Did He Die?
April 2, 2013 by Hollywoodite
Earlier today, it was reported that Buckwild reality star Shain Gandee, 21, his uncle, 48, and another man were found dead in a remote area of West Virginia after being reported missing this weekend.
Following local reports that included a photo of Gandee’s vehicle inside of which the men were found, news outlets like the Associated Press, CNN, and TMZ.com have confirmed the young star passed this weekend. To which MTV reacted with an official statement, as did his cast mates from Buckwild who are all said to be devastated.
According to TMZ, there is evidence Gandee died of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Police will not confirm until autopsies are completed by the local medical examiner’s office, but inside sources says carbon monoxide poisoning is the most likely scenario.
The bodies took hours to recover from inside of the vehicle because of its remote location (that also had no cell reception so they could not call for help and they were only discovered by chance by a passing ATV rider). A rep for the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office in West Virginia said Gandee’s “1984 Bronco [was] stuck [several feet deep] in mud in the middle of nowhere… and the only way to reach it [was] via an all-terrain vehicle.” Also, the tailpipe was possibly submerged in the mud so it seems the most likely cause of death.
With Gandee dead, Salwa Amin in jail again, and Gandee’s friend Michael Burford in trouble for DUI, MTV has made the decision to halt production on season two with no confirmation made about the show’s fate.
“We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee, and those involved in this tragic incident,” the network said in a statement. “We are waiting for more information but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met and we will miss him dearly.”
The mayor of Gandee’s local Charleston, West Virginia where the bodies were found has called for the show to be cancelled.
Mayor Danny Jones tells TMZ, “Of the few cast members on the show already two have had legal issues and now one has died. The show only enhances the negative stereotype the Kanawha Valley already has. I hope the show’s life is short.”
UPDATE 4/2/13: The third man has been identified as Gandee’s friend Donald Robert Myers, 27, an employee at a local Subway whose bosses grew concerned when he didn’t come in to work.
