The Situation Admits His “Prescription Medication Problem”

The Situation has, apparently, been at the helm of the deflections in the media about his “substance abuse” issues.

At the time TMZ.com broke its story that The Situation had entered “rehab” for treatment including suspected issues with pills, his rep denied the claims: “He is not in rehab for substance abuse. He has spent the last several weeks at an undisclosed location for much needed rest and recuperation after his extensive production and appearance schedule.”

Sources close to the star appear to have lied, or played semantics, claiming the same: no rehab, no substance issues.

Add to that, more misdirection from The Situation on his Gawker-derivative site, SitchNews.com, where he called TMZ liars in a post called “Do NOT Believe Everything You Hear, Especially from TMZ.” And he tweeted “Getting in amazing shape for season 6. Don’t believe everything you read or hear.”

However, the following day, sources changed their tune. Telling RadarOnline.com that The Situation had real issues, including suspected dependency and the alleged use of illegal drugs.

“[Mike Sorrentino had] become dependent on prescription pills to counteract his hard-partying lifestyle, which included illegal substances,” said a source. “Mike was in a vicious cycle of not sleeping because of the illegal substances that he was taking, so he began using prescription pills to help him sleep. Mike would refer to the prescriptions pills as ‘downers.’ The good news is that he was the one that wanted to get help and checked into rehab. Hopefully with the proper treatment, Mike will be able to lead a sober life.”

Last night, TMZ reported that he had entered Cirque Lodge in Utah, where he’d gained weight in recovery. And sources told Us Weekly:  ”Mike is really distant from the rest of the castmates. When they are not filming, they really don’t know what he is up to and don’t talk to him at all. Mike was in bad shape [before entering treatment].”

Soon after, TheSituation conceded that he’d gone into treatment and most of the things TMZ said were actually true: “I want to set the record straight. I have voluntarily taken steps to get control of a prescription medication problem I had due to exhaustion. I have spent the past several weeks getting treatment for this problem and recuperating from my work and appearance schedule. I appreciate my fans support and love you guys.” His site adds “getting treatment is something Mike has done on his own volition.”

His father, Frank Sorrentino, has spoken to the media again about his son; this time saying it’s The Situation’s second time in rehab following similar issues around two-years ago: “We found the facility for him in Florida and we brought him down here and did a 7 day dry out period then he went to another facility for 30 days… he so desperately needed the help.”
