Tabloid Covers: Best & Worst Beach Bodies, Divorce Drama & More
The tabloids operate several emergency templates for slow news weeks: the Kardashians, bikinis, weight, baby speculation, dead celebrities, and fabricated relationship drama. And that’s all that’s made the covers this week, with the exception of Jessica Simpson’s wedding in Life & Style and Snooki’s exclusive baby reveal for In Touch Weekly.
* OK! Magazine’s cover reads: “Only In OK! Russell Begs Katy ‘Take Me Back.’ He’s bombarding her with phone calls and texts. She’s lonely while her new man is on tour in Australia.” Incidentally, Katy Perry is single after breaking off her fling with Robert Ackroyd, guitarist of Florence + the Machine. And, no, Kanye West did not propose to Kim Kardashian (and, even if he did, OK! would never get the exclusive).
* Star Magazine’s cover reads: “Sexy! Skinny! Scary! 55 Best & Worst Beach Bodies.” The woman with her face obscured appears to be Dog The Bounty Hunter’s wife, Beth Elizabeth Smith.
* People Magazine’s cover says: “Why Did Mary Kennedy Take Her Life? Inside a Kennedy tragedy. Betrayal and despair in a family torn apart.”
* National Enquirer’s cover says: “Kelly Tells John: ‘It’s Over!” WORLD EXCLUSIVE Travolta Cross-Dressing Scandal (Not from a movie, shocking photos). Their $200 million divorce bombshell.”
* Reality Weekly Magazine’s cover says: “Sister Wives Split. After jealousy, financial worries and nonstop fighting, one of Kody’s wives can’t take it anymore.” Inset is a Britney Spears “wedding slim down,” that’s all lies. The “before” photo is from 2007, when she performed Gimme More at the MTV Video Music Awards, and the “after” appears to be circa 2009/ 2010; all before she got engaged.
* Us Weekly also went with a generic bikini cover: “Hot Bodies 2012.”
