Who Is A Worse Human Being: Teen Mom Edition

Most reality stars are self-absorbed people. That’s not an opinion, it’s a well-known fact that reality television casting directors are usually looking for people who are narcissistic and self-involved, because the drama they create makes for interesting television. But every now and again, a few of the flavors of the month are so odious, it’s hard to tell which of them is the worst example of humanity. Take, for example, two of the no longer teenage stars of Teen Mom: Jenelle Rogers (née Evans) and Farrah Abraham.

Trying to decide which of these so-called ladies is the worst can be harder than choosing a name for your first born. At first glance, the clear winner seems to be Jenelle. After all, stealing your mom’s credit cards while she’s pre-occupied with raising your child is despicable. Marrying someone who just got out of a hearing for criminal charges is also pretty messed up. The fact that she seems to have sent naked pictures of herself to any man in North Carolina willing to take a look just about pushes it over the edge. But consider for a moment that the girl is actually, legitimately mentally ill. Though “bipolar” is a term that is casually tossed around to describe anyone who is moody or unpredictable, bipolar disorder is a real illness that is difficult to manage and sometimes impossible to overcome. Despite the arguing and constant fighting, there are rare genuine moments on the show where Jenelle shakes off her demons and is nice to her mom. (Granted, they are usually followed with more cursing and screaming, but still).

For my money, Farrah has to be worse. Though she does go to school, is involved in her child’s life, and shows entrepreneurial spirit, the girl is just not a nice person. Anyone who thinks their child needs eyebrow waxing at three-years-old, and then acts on that thought, and THEN once it is a disaster finishes the job with tweezers on the sleeping baby, needs a little professional help too. Plus, the reported $21,000 she spent on plastic surgery certainly doesn’t seem to have improved her attitude nor personality. Eagle-eyed viewers of the show have noticed that in the seasons she was featured on the show, Farrah was rude and ungrateful to her family members and didn’t seem to have one true friend to stand by her. After getting pregnant at 16, the once popular cheerleader became gossip fodder for her so-called friends, and doesn’t seem to have made a meaningful connection with another girl her age ever since.

While Jenelle definitely needs to be held accountable for her atrocious behavior over the years, it seems that with treatment and therapy, she could still become a mature adult. Farrah, meanwhile, doesn’t seem to think she needs help with anything… except ideas for her upcoming erotic book.
