Why Does Teresa Giudice Dislike Bethenny Frankel’s Skinnygirl Drink?
July 23, 2012 by Hollywoodite
Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa Giudice is mocking the success of Real Housewives of New York City’s Bethenny Frankel.
On Sunday’s episode, Giudice pushes ahead in the development of her drink product, Fabellini, by tasting possible flavours. Giudice tells her husband: “My thing is I don’t like anything that tastes diety. For instance, Skinnygirl tastes diety. I don’t like that.”
The derision is aimed at Frankel’s Skinnygirl beverages that launched in 2009. Incidentally, according to reports subsequent to the June 2011 “New Celebrity Money Makers” Forbers cover, Frankel embellished the amount for which she sold Skinnygirl. According to Forbes at the time, Frankel reportedly sold the business for between$100-$120 million. In October 2011, however, The Huffington Post claimed she probably sold the drinks company for closer to $8.1 million split with her business partner (that figure’s debated too, though, since Frankel claimed she paid more than $8 million in taxes that year). Around that time, Frankel re-tweeted this: “The reporter @HuffingtonPost doesn’t get accounting or know how to read financials,” with her own comment “Precisely. Irresponsible journalism.” Frankel continued to blame The HuffPo for decimating her financials, by saying: “The price of success. The serious issue is supposedly credible outlets hiring freelance writers with false info to get attention.” Adding: “Yay! @skinnygirlcktls is #1 fastest growing spirits brand in the country bc of YOU! On track to do over 1 million cases this year! Thank you.” Frankel refused to clarify her financials, even when asked by Matt Lauer on Today Show; calling the $120 million figure “credible” but the exact sales figure “irrelevant.” Beam Global, who purchased Frankel’s Skinnygirl said: “[Do not expect that a black and white lump sum ‘purchase price’ figure will be made available. Suffice to say, this was not an $8.1 million acquisition.”
During RHONJ isn’t the only time Giudice has criticised Skinnygirl. In February, Giudice wrote on her official website for her own drinks’s launch: “I’m so so so proud of it. And it tastes delicious! And Fabellini is low calorie–less than 1/2 the calories of other ‘skinny’ drinks.”
A source tells Us Weekly it’s definitely jealousy because Giudice wants her own fortune and reality spin-off(s). ”Teresa will work as hard as she can till she gets to Bethenny status… She learned a lot from Donald Trump about bringing her brand out even more.”
