Teresa and Joe Giudice’s Day in Court

Teresa and Joe Giudice self-surrendered at the United States District Court in Newark, New Jersey and appeared before Judge Cathy Waldor today. The Real Housewives of New Jersey reality stars are both being charged in a 39 count indictment with conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud, bankruptcy fraud and making false statements on loan applications.

The Giudices were each released on $500,000.00 unsecured bonds. Both were ordered to surrender their passports and are not allowed to leave New York and New Jersey until their next hearing, which is scheduled for August 14,2013. During the hearing it was discovered Joe Giudice is not a U.S. citizen and was actually born in Italy. The Giudices did not enter pleas during the hearing.

Teresa Giudice and Joe Giudice of Montville Township, NJ are being accused of lying about their income when applying for loans before Real Housewives of New Jersey was aired in 2009. Then later hiding their fortunes in a bankruptcy filing after the first season ended and defrauding lenders during bankruptcy proceedings. They are also accused of submitting fraudulent mortgage and loan applications from 2001 to 2008. Prosecutors say the reality star couple received an estimated $4.6 million in mortgages, withdraws from home equity lines of credit and construction loans. Joe Giudice also failed to file income tax return from 2004 to 2008.

If convicted, the Giudices could face up to 50 years in prison. Joe Giudice who is not a U.S citizen could be deported back to Italy. The couple star on Bravo’s Real Housewives of New Jersey which is currently airing its fifth season.
