The Bachelor Season 17 Episode Four Recap: Part One
January 29, 2013 by Coco Liberty
In this episode, the cattiness of the women begins to rear its ugly head while innocent Sean develops stronger relationships.
His first date is with Selma and they’re going rock climbing in Joshua Tree Park. Sean wants to “take this glamorous girl into the desert” and challenge her on a physical level. I love how Sean continues to put women in uncomfortable situations for the viewer’s pleasure. He challenges Sarah to propelling off a building, Desiree with a prank, and then embarrassing Leslie with the four minute kiss on Hollywood Blvd.
Selma starts out by doing the typical girl complaining about it internally/in her monologues definitely not out loud to Sean (ie, it’s hot, I hate heights, I’m going to fall, ect). All women do this and when we’re comfortable with a guy our complaints get more vocal. For now, Selma has to put on a brave face and climb this mountain. They make it to the top for their “we feel so accomplished moment.” Let me just say, I want to look like Selma after I rock climb. My hair would be everywhere with sweat dripping all over my clothes. Of course, as if ABC has prompted her, she says, “just having his arm around me and looking at what I just concurred best moment was perfect.” Gag me, but with Valentine’s Day around the corner, I’m thinking I wouldn’t mind a date like that.
After their date, Sean reveals that he had two serious relationships, but he wasn’t ready at the time to get married. The girl he dated was pushing to get married after just a year. I’m working on four years with the same guy so she could have been more patient. Anyway, Selma reveals that her Iraqi culture is very strict and conservative. She isn’t really even allowed to date publicly let alone on national TV. Selma’s giving Sean the “kiss me” eyes, but she also isn’t allowed to kiss him until she’s “his only lady.” He is willing to wait and gives her a rose. Then, yet again with the corniness, she says, “my fairy tale is just beginning, he is my prince charming.”
On to date #2 the dreaded group date. Tierra is already pouting and saying “it’s time for Sean to step up and for him to see who I am. I don’t need no chaperon.” Who you are is a brat! I’m over these childish antics and she needs to understand what she signed up for. It’s The Bachelor and they make no secret that it isn’t the Tierra show. Lindsay, Jackie, Catherine, Amanda, Ashlee, Sarah, Tierra, and Robyn are chosen to go on the Roller Derby Date, which is a recipe for disaster. Tierra keeps brooding and says “I have aggression living in the house and I get to knock some b**ches down.” Again, fueling this villain complex is really obnoxious. Too bad this isn’t like Survivor and the girls could vote her out.
The girls are practicing and everyone is falling. Amanda has convinced all the girls she has done this before to psyche them out and it’s oddly working. Sarah is already worried about this challenge because she feels off balance and is being tested emotionally and physically. I feel bad saying this, and Sarah has a great personality, but she’s the only one who continually brings up her disability. She is fully capable of doing anything she wants and Ashlee tries to comfort her. While practicing, Amanda wipes out on her chin and is sent to the hospital. Sean finally realizes that these girls probably shouldn’t have a scrimmage because they’ll be even more broken jaws.
They head over to the Roosevelt Hotel rooftop lounge, which has been the venue for two of the dates. The Roosevelt is getting major PR points. While Sean is making out with Lindsay and preparing to get into the hot tub, Tierra throws a major tantrum saying “all these girls in the way of that I am going to lose my mind” and “I want that rose!” She also says how Sarah gets a sympathy rose for her arm and that Amanda might get a sympathy rose for her accident. UMM excuse me? Aren’t you the girl who fell down the stairs for attention last week? The girls are trying to calm her down, but Tierra keeps throwing a fit and threatening to leave.
Lindsay and Sean walk out in their bathing suits to Tierra crouched down begging to talk to Sean. He brings Tierra aside and leaves Lindsay in her bathing suit. Of course, Sean is manipulated by Tierra and gives her a rose. All the girls are upset that Sean can’t see behind Tierra’s act.
