The Bachelor Season 17 Episode Nine Recap: Part One

February 26, 2013 by Coco Liberty

The show opens with our Bachelor, Sean, walking the beaches of Thailand and hanging in hammocks reflecting on his experiences and the three remaining girls. Each girl has distinctive personalities and something that resonates with Sean’s heart strings. Interestingly enough, Sean was sent home this week, last season, when Emily decided that she’d rather choose between the two other men. Sean describes each girl’s best traits: AshLee is compassionate and caring, Catherine is goofy and lots of fun, and Lindsay is showing her maturity even though she’s the youngest of the bunch. Sean goes on three individual dates with the possibility of staying in the “Fantasy Suite.”  This “Fantasy” suite isn’t the usual “fantasy” because as we’re reminded every episode, our prince charming is also a born again Virgin. Well what an honorable choice to match his previous description of being a gentleman and a good Christian boy!

First up is Lindsay! Yet again, Sean decides to test Lindsay’s dedication by eating bugs in Thailand. She bites into the bug, but her face says it all. She’s a champ for eating it, but Sean needs to stop making these girls uncomfortable. Maybe Catherine is the only match for Sean because she equally challenges him. Lindsay is too nice and young to be a match for Sean’s humor. After eating the exotic delicacies of Thailand, Lindsay and Sean head to dinner and Lindsay’s attire says it all. She is ready to seal the deal with our Christian boy. Although during the hometown date Lindsay stated she wanted to start a family there, she changes her response during dinner and agrees to potentially moving to Texas with Sean. Sean is elated by her willingness to move that he gives her the fantasy suite card.  Lindsay changes into sweats and I’m sure they just played board games all night.

Next, AshLee joins Sean on an adventurous swim through dark caves. Every date that AshLee and Sean spend together, Sean is creating physical demonstrates of how she can trust him and overcome her emotional issues of abandonment and lack of trust. After overcoming her fears with Sean, they see the light out of the cave and share a romantic day on a private beach. During Dinner, AshLee gets very serious with Sean and discusses how they’re perfect for each other. It doesn’t feel like a normal conversation with flow and ease. She then brings up what engagement ring she likes (cushion cut) and her ring size, which pushes the envelope. Girl there is still a rose ceremony! Anything could happen! I feel like AshLee wants this more than the other girls because she is older. I also think that Lindsay, as a fellow 24-year-old, needs to evaluate her life goals before rushing into having a family with a 28-year-old. Although both AshLee and Lindsay have a four year difference with Sean, Lindsay needs more life experiences while AshLee needs to evaluate why she’s pushing so hard for this.
