The Bachelor Season 17 Finale Recap: Part Two
March 12, 2013 by Coco Liberty
On to the second hour of The Bachelor…Sean is in deep thought in his turquoise tank and truly believes his wife is here. I would hope your wife was here after such a long drawn out process. He has his last date with Lindsay and they’re color coordinated with her neon pink shorts. Lindsay says “I want to spend this date with him before the biggest day of our lives.” So naïve. They lounge on a boat and make-out while escorted by two Thailand locals paddling. He says that a life with Lindsay would be fun and “It is like I have known her for years” a.k.a. probably three months. During the evening portion of their date, she tells him that she loves him and she really, really means it. He says “I know.” She is all wrapped up in his arms and she doesn’t want to lose her dream. Her dream is so close to her but it’s all overwhelming because she doesn’t want to lose it. Again, she is all “White girl problems” with this whole dream of having the perfect guy and the perfect family. Where are your real aspirations girl? My favorite line of the entire show is when she says, “when Sean and I kiss it is very reassuring, that’s why we always kiss. That is how he can express himself to me?” For a guy who is a born again virgin, Lindsay is definitely the passionate sensual connection whereas Catherine is the more logical and connect on all levels girl. At the end of the date, she arranges for them to light lanterns with their wishes of love, happiness, and family in the air. It was really sweet and thoughtful of her. Sean is still up in the air with his decision.
Sean says he misses Catherine and Lindsay is clouding his decision. He is searching for a sign on Catherine and his one-on-one date. He plans a date with an elephant and knows that she’ll love it. There is your sign, Sean. If you plan a better date for someone, then they’re obviously your choice. They ride an elephant and Catherine is over the moon about it. Who wouldn’t be? Onto the more serious portion of the date, Catherine tries to open up and let her guard down. She tells him about her feelings for him and how his family blew her away. It’s hard for her to reveal all of her feelings for him and then not to hear what he thinks because he isn’t allowed to say anything. Yet, he is able to say “you’re constantly on my mind and I picture our life.” So, come on Catherine, what more do you want? Then they have the longest hug goodbye. She says “I love you” and he says “thank you for today.” Now I understand why she’d be upset. That answer is ridiculous. Then Catherine is left crying following Sean because she can’t get anything out of him.
Because ABC needs to make this a three-hour special, they cut back to the live audience and interview the girls Sean kicked off. Collectively they all say “either way at this point” and that’s really insightful. I had no idea that with two choices and 50/50 chances that it could go either way! Anyway back to Sean’s dilemma, he knows that he has really great physical chemistry with Lindsay, but logically Catherine has the whole package. He has finally decided that there is one woman he can’t live without! Of course, Neil Lane jumps at the chance to come to Thailand and Sean picks out a really beautiful ring (all of us are jealous!) After picking out the ring, Sean gets all emotional and starts crying while talking about his decision. I’m not sure why he is reacting this way, but I think Sean isn’t crying about finally getting engaged rather over this process being over. The Bachelor is like being in love boot camp and anyone would crush under the pressure. Maybe he is just really happy and excited to propose.
Lindsay and Catherine are getting ready for a potential proposal while Sean gets dressed in a suit. Did ABC purposely put Catherine in gold and Lindsay in silver? By clothing alone, we already know who wins! Go for the gold, Sean! Lindsay is crying and can’t believe that she’s so happy. Dreams are about to be crushed.
Sean has to break the news to Lindsay and he tells her that although he loves her they aren’t meant for each other. Lindsay looks sad, but then takes off her heels and walks away. Then Sean proposes to Catherine with an elephant to signify the entirety of this experience. She says “yes” and that his is the coolest day ever! Between Lindsay wanting a husband to hang out with and Catherine calling a proposal the coolest day ever, these girls need to broaden their vocabulary. Overall, Sean and Catherine seem better suited for each other and Lindsay wasn’t a bad sport. She’s young and her time will come.
In other Bachelor news, Desiree is the next Bachelorette and Sean and Catherine want to get married on national TV as well.
