The Biggest Loser Hires a New “Unqualified” Trainer
August 18, 2013 by Natalie Nicole
Sandy Krum, the past Head Athletic Trainer on the Biggest Loser, knew the sports training industry backward and forward. He worked with professional athletes for 25 years including the following teams: the Cincinnati Reds, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Chicago Cubs. Although he began with an injury-focused background, Krum won awards for his athletic training abilities. From fitness to medical treatment, he did it all.
However, we are all scratching our heads about the latest news. For undisclosed reasons, we hear that Krum was fired after Season 14 of the Biggest Loser. Who is the replacement? Well, that its a controversial topic.
Sources claim that Ryan Applegate, a younger and less experienced trainer, will be taking his place. Apparently, some of the Biggest Loser staff is concerned about his abilities. A source tells TMZ of uncertified Applegate, “past contestants and several staff members on the show are extremely upset that Applegate hasn’t passed the stringent certification test- a test that is not required by law but one that many trainers take because it cements their qualifications.”
Krum was a well-renowned fitness expert, but we are not too sure who Applegate is. From his pictures, we can see that he is a young, good looking man. At this point, the show should know what kind of trainers work best with the team.
Should we trust the Biggest Loser’s judgement in hiring professionals, or is it possible they hired someone based on charisma? They seem to have done a great job hiring trainers in the past; some have successfully coached contestants to lose hundreds of pounds. It is doubtful that they would hire someone truly unqualified!
