The Hills: Alternate Ending With A Twist

August 9, 2013 by Natalie Nicole

After the reality series Laguna Beach became a major teen hit on MTV, it was hard to see the series come to an end. Luckily, The Hills returned with favorite character Lauren Conrad to continue the story. The show followed the journey of young girls living in Los Angeles, struggling at work during the day and hitting up the party scene at night. The series featured an entertaining pattern of changing friendships, breakups, and career moves.

There had been much debate over the years whether or not the show was scripted. Although the girls had real jobs at real companies, it was strange that they seemed to have endless funding and endless drama. Some of the situations seemed unrealistic as well. For example, in one season finale, Lauren ended up showing up to her enemy’s wedding and wishing her well… even though we had seen her constantly bashing the idea of this particular relationship.

In the original ending of The Hills, Kristin Cavallari said her goodbyes to friends and love interest Brody (who said he had a new girlfriend) and headed off to Europe. As her car drove away from Brody, the camera zoomed out to reveal that he was actually standing in a studio with a backdrop of LA. This confirmed the rumors that the show was, in fact, scripted.

In the alternate ending, The Hills was not revealed to be fake. Instead of zooming out to show the MTV set, Brody goes home to his apartment. Lauren Conrad is sitting on the couch smiling, as if she is Brody’s illusive new girlfriend. Brody tells her that he had to say bye to a friend, and Lauren says that sometimes it can be hard to say bye to friends. And that is the end!

What a twist! At least it ended in the way that many fans were hoping for: with Lauren and Brody together.
