The Real World Is Heading Back To San Francisco
The Real World is one of the longest running reality shows of all time and next year, fans will get to see the show return for a 29th season in one of the series’ most popular locations, San Francisco, where the show’s third season was shot.
“We’re excited about returning to San Francisco, the location of one of our most memorable seasons of The Real World,” Jonathan Murray, one of the creators of The Real World, tells Entertainment Weekly. “The city has always been a great place for young people to explore who they are and what they want to do with their lives.”
Following the success of The Real World, MTV’s longest running series, the network developed two spinoff shows which included former cast members from the hit series: Road Rules (which wrapped filming in 2007) and The Challenge (which has also been titled Road Rules: All Stars and Real World/Road Rules Challenge).
The first installment of The Real World: San Francisco is one of the most memorable both for fans and in the media, mainly because of cast member Pedro Zamora. Pedro made headlines with his candidness about his homosexuality and struggle with AIDS. During the show’s run, Pedro was credited with personalizing and humanizing those living with HIV with his activism and education on the series by then-President Bill Clinton. On November 11, 1994, just one day after the final episode of The Real World: San Francisco aired, Pedro passed away. Sean Sasser, Pedro’s boyfriend and The Real World: San Francisco regular, who also suffered from HIV, died earlier this month.
The Real World season 29 will begin airing sometime in 2014.
