Jersey Shore’s Mike Sorrentino, a.k.a. The Situation, comes clean about his past addiction to painkillers.

In an interview with The Associated Press, he talks about his struggles to stay clean and when he finally realized he had a drug problem. It all started when he sustained an injury on Dancing with the Stars and needed painkillers to combat it. He tells The AP that he finally realized he had a drug addiction problem when he was on a family trip to Australia and ran out of painkillers.

“All I had to do was get dressed for a family function and I couldn’t do that,” reveals the reality star. “The shirt was laid out, the belt, the pants, everything. The shower was on. I couldn’t even get out of bed. Then he thought, ‘If I can’t do that how am I going to continue?’”

There were also rumors stating that he was mixing drugs with alcohol which he denies. He tells them, ”those rumors were definitely false. I didn’t mix anything.”

Thankfully, he sought out treatment and checked into rehab soon after the trip. He is still on the road to recovery and takes medication that treats opioid addiction and also attends counseling.

He is now using his fame for good instead of the wrong reasons. He is currently the face of Reckitt Benckiser Pharmaceuticals Inc, which makes the medication that he is currently taking. He also launched a program called Reset Reality which is a group that helps spread awareness of those who are recovering from a pill addiction.

He also tells the AP that he has plans to return to the showbiz industry, but right now he wants to work on staying healthy, ”The roller coaster of fame and fortune is definitely a ride in itself but to get to recovery is something special. …There is hope out there and you can get help.”
